My therapist once told me that I’d know I needed to go to an inpatient facility when I was fighting for recovery as hard as possible, but was not making any process, or was getting worse.
Two weeks later, I was at a residential treatment center. I was at that facility for residential and outpatient treatment for six weeks, and then at a less intensive facility closer to home for two months.
Treatment — or, more intensive treatment than I was receiving — saved me. I don’t know you or your eating disorder, so I don’t know what you may or may not need. But here are some posts that will help you navigate the different types of treatment available.

Flashback Friday: Posts about my time in residential and outpatient treatment
- The Phone Call – figuring out how to pack and ready for treatment in 12 hours. Aaaand go.
- Naked And Ashamed – my first day and night in residential treatment.
- Insurance – Enough said. The problem with insurance companies.
- Moving Day – Because of said insurance problems, I was prematurely sent from residential to outpatient treatment.
- Food Fight – I went from eating nothing to eating everything on my plate in the span of a day. And I was not happy.
- Danger, Danger – Since refraining from ED behaviors (for the most part), I attempted to manage my anxiety in unfortunate ways.
